Everyone rejoice, week one of the regular season is here! As we all sit down this week and watch our teams crush the competition, there will be those unexpected players that will put up big games. As a result, they will be the current hotness of the waiver wire going into week 2. I am here to help you snag some of these guys early and allow you to BEAT THE BLITZ of the waiver wire chaos.
(The following players have a current ownership percentage less than 70% according to Yahoo)
Tony Pollard [69% Owned]: The Ezekiel Elliot contract talks ended poorly over the weekend and the hold out continues. Don’t worry Cowboys fans, Tony Pollard is taking the next man up mentality and is primed to score big against the Giants in week one. Pollard is not merely a high-end handcuff, but he presents the skillset to become a top 12 running back in 2019 as long as Zeke does not play. Check your waivers ASAP and scoop Pollard up before his ownership percentage hits 100%.
Nyheim Hines [46% Owned]: Without Andrew Luck, this offense will need to find its identity. Brissett offers the big arm to stretch the field which should open up the underneath passing work opportunity for Nyheim Hines. In PPR leagues, Hines has the ability to take advantage of the Chargers pass rush and have some decent work in week one. With upcoming matchups against TN, ATL, Oak, and KC, Hines deserves to be added with game scripts favoring his pass-catching prowess over the next few weeks.
Justin Jackson [30% Owned]: Contract talks with Melvin Gordon have not gone well, and it is doubtful that he will see the field much in 2019. Being so, Justin Jackson and Austin Ekeler will receive a lot of work over the course of the season. It might not be pretty, but Jackson’s usage in this Charger’s offense is intriguing. Though his usage will be game script dependent, Jackson is worth an add at only 30% ownership with a matchup at Detroit in week two.
Deebo Samuel [20% Owned]: Yes, Deebo is a rookie wide receiver, but he has proven that he has game breaking ability with his athleticism. The 49ers are searching for a pass catcher not named George Kittle to step up, and I believe that player could be Deebo Samuel. He should see plenty of opportunity over the first three weeks with matchups against TB,CIN, and PIT. Stash Deebo now while you are able.
Frank Gore [15% Owned]: The ageless wonder looks explosive yet again. With Shady now with KC, Gore will be leaned upon heavily early in the season until Yeldon and Singletary get going later in the season. The Bills face a tough matchup on the road week one against the Jets defense, but then have the Giants and Bengals the following weeks. Add Gore if you need to solidify your running back group.
DaeSean Hamilton [17% Owned]: Week one could see the emergence of year two wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton. The Raider’s defense looks to be in shambles which should offer a good opportunity for DaeSean to have a nice game on Monday Night Football. Hamilton could be the week one waiver hotness. With an ownership of 17%, add him now and thank me later.
Irv Smith Jr. [1% Owned]: If you are streaming tight end this season, give Irv Smith Jr. a look. Smith has some upside with ATL in week one, has a tough game in Lambo week 2, but then returns home for a great matchup in week three against the Raiders. Stash Irv and use him week to week dependent on the matchup if you are streaming the tight end position.
